Spring GoByBike Week | June 1 to June 7

Win amazing prizes just for riding your bike!


West Kootenay Cycling Coalition, The City of Nelson, and Gerick Cycle & Ski are teaming up to celebrate GoByBike Week the first week of June! Join us for fun community events including Bike Bingo, commuter challenges, a Youth Learn & Ride, morning bicycle pit stops, a group ride & BBQ, and a panel discussion with local transportation leaders. This year’s focus is on bike safety, commuting, and shifting to more active modes of transportation. Let’s get out of our cars and onto our bikes!

Pick up a bingo card, complete challenges all week AND WIN PRIZES. Pick up cards at Gerick Cycle & Ski, City of Nelson office, Nelson & District Youth Centre, Nelson Visitor Centre or download the PDF below. Drop off cards at Gericks Cycle by Friday at 5pm to enter.

Stop in on your morning commute at Gerick Cycle and Ski. Visit their tent set up on Baker Street for 

a quick shot of air, some chain lube, mechanical advice or high fives! 

And bingo cards.

Youth are invited to meet up at

the Nelson Youth Centre to learn basic bicycle maintenance skills and safety tips. Then go on a fun group ride where participants get to practise new found skills! The event ends with a pizza party back at NDYC.

Saturday, June 7th, 5:30 PM

Join a fun group ride rolling through

Nelson on pathways and designated bikeways. Meet up at Gericks'. The ride ends at the Nelson City Campground with a BBQ with free food for all participants and prizes!

Nelson's 4th Annual Santa Bicycle Ride

Thank you to everyone who participated! A very special thank you to S.H.A.R.E. for hosting us and providing cookies and prizes and to Kootenay Co-op for providing the milk. 

We were able to raise some cash for Our Daily Bread while spreading some holiday cheer around town.

SEPTEMBER 12, 2024

WKCC Presents Plan to RDCK

The draft active transportation plan sponsored by the West Kootenay Cycling Coalition (WKCC) and funded by a $50,000 grant from the federal government will be presented to RDCK board directors on September 12th. WKCC will be requesting adoption of the plan. Consider attending the meeting or writing a letter of support to your area director. The more support that residents provide the more likely our dream will become reality.

Offering brake inspections and adjustments plus free advice by Repair All Day Repairs


Bicycle Photo Booth

 June 8, 10:30 am

Near Tennis Courts, Lakeside Park, Nelson


Get a free picture of yourself (or with friends) with your ride and BOB (Big Orange Bridge). Professional photographer, Justin Randolph Joffe, will be on-site taking photos. All participants will get a high resolution digital photo. 


Community Bicycle & BBQ Ride

 June 8, 11:00 am

Near Tennis Courts, Lakeside Park, Nelson


Join our fun, free group ride to Taghum Beach for a community BBQ. Free sausages and baguettes for all participants. Meet at Lakeside park at 10:30 am. Ride departs at 11:00 am. BBQ at Taghum Beach upon arrival until 2:00 pm. Then ride back to Nelson as a group again. Safety in numbers. We will only go as fast as the slowest rider. No one left behind. All ages and all abilities. Ride is approximately 8 kms each way.

WINTER CYCLING EXPO

Noon to 4 pm


A great lineup of presentations, a panel discussion, and a film screening of Bicicles, a documentary about cyciling in the winter, and a Q & A after.


Pop in to chat with experienced riders, bike shop mechanics, and active transportation enthusiasts. Everyone is welcome 🙂 


CRITICAL MASS MOVIE & RIDE

Friday, October 27th 

Nelson Civic Theatre 


You Never Bike Alone - a 2007 documentary film exploring Vancouver's vibrant bike culture and its development as a viable form of transport. Tickets $5.


Followed by a Critical Mass Bicycle Ride on Nelson's city streets. It's Halloween weekend so come in costume. Bike lights mandatory.

The Engine Inside: New Documentary Sheds Light on the Overlooked Potential of the Bicycle. Written by our own Nelsonite, Mitchell Scott!


Members of the West Kootenay Cycling Coalition are invited to attend the 7 pm premier at the Nelson Civic Theatre this Thursday, June 29th.  


We'll meet up after the film and start building bicycle culture right here in the Kootenays.

Green Link Grind and Green Link Glide


A new challenge starting in 2022!


The Green Link Grind is a 10KM long fitness challenge that follows the South Kootenay Green Link route from Trail to Rossland. See how fast you can make it up, submit your time, and get your name on the leaderboard! Times can be submitted to westkootenaycycling@gmail.co,

Biking uphill for 10KM isn't your thing? Then try the Green Link Glide! Bike from Rossland to Trail on the South Kootenay Green link route, and see how many times you need to pedal. 


There's no leaderboard for this one, but if you submit your time and we'll add you to the Green Link Glide wall of fame! Times and number of pedal steps can be submitted to westkootenaycycling@gmail.com
