Derek Baker - Board Director

Matt Popp - Board Director

Will you be our next Spokesperson?

We’re searching for a new Spokesperson (aka President).

Are you energetic, have stamina for the long ride, able to navigate steep climbs and sharp corners? Do you thrive in all types of weather and consider "grant writing" creative fun? Do you have a passion for human-powered transportation? If so, you might be the next slightly unhinged, high-energy President of the West Kootenay Cycling Coalition.

About Us:

We're a passionate group of do-gooders who’s bike tires have a few too many leaky patches. We believe in our mission, we’re a collaborative bunch in need of a leader to pump us up. The cause is noble; our organizational chart is a wheel with a few spokes that need repair or replacing. Our goals and objectives include:

• Continually rubbing shoulders and scratching the backs of active transportation enthusiasts, businesses and local and regional authorities such as City Councils, RDCK and MoTT (Ministry of Transport and Transit)

• Working towards the dream of an accessible, multi-modal transportation network making it possible to safely and conveniently get around our rural region without a car!

• Continuing to advocate for and implement alternative transportation options though education, public engagement, grants, pilots and bike raves, yah!

• Working towards our goal of achieving an alternate transportation empire in partnership with other cycling groups, hiking groups, skiing groups, tourism groups, public transit groups, climate action groups and more because “power lies in unity”, Homer, 850 BC.

Responsibilities Include:

• Problem Solving: Even when the grant application is due in an hour and you have a flat tire and no spare tube.

• Fundraising: Must be able to charm money out of donors while your hands are covered in bicycle grease.

• Hosting Meetings: You will lead them, attend them, and occasionally wonder why it’s so hard scheduling them.

• Planning: We need an “annual plan" to keep us on track for a year but, we’d settle for a "let's organize for the next Go By Bike event" plan.

• Leadership: Must possess the diplomatic skills of a triage nurse in a hospital and the patience of a personal trainer.

Your Skills:

• Experience herding cats.

• A proven track record of empathy, integrity, and always being prepared for any weather.

• Able to step in and take over the handlebar (steering wheel) and complete unfinished projects already in progress.

• Profound ability to brush the critics aside.

We Offer:

• Emotional fulfillment, social connection and a chance to change the world.

• Benefits package that includes endless gratitude, fun bike events and perhaps a beer or two.

• Bragging rights for each project completed!

We’re in search of a few more board members too. If you already know that people who ride bicycles are the best people then we are your people! Please attend our AGM and join our cause.
